As to kstars 1.2.9,which had been introduced before.Here is some experience on geolocation setup:

1.Check your city longitude and latitude on  http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=537

2.Open kstars and click the geolocation bottum then put your data on it,becareful the UT time zone must be your actual time zone but not the time zone you are using,for instance Kunming is using the Beijing time (UTC+8),but Kunming belongs to the +7 time zone,so you should input +7 in the UT option,and you should choose the right DST rules such as China is "CH".However there is still bug in kstars,if you have wrong setting of your city,you can not delete the wrong setting on the list,somebody says that you can delete them from the mycities.dat file but I can not find any of this file on my ubuntu.
